The Return, Jenna Jameson, and Whatever Else I Think Of:
Yes I'm back, after over a year of not updating the site. Regarding this site, I want to discuss it first off. The status of it for the forseeable future is going to be the same. As much as I'd love to put as much energy into it as I once did, I can't given my lack of interest in wrestling at the moment. I'm sorry but the HHH show on RAW sucks and the minute I see him and his neanderthal sloping forehead, I tune out. And SD doesn't hold much of my interest either, outside of the Dudleys and Bradshaw when he has his momnets. And when you aren't into the subject of a site or sites, you just aren't motivated to work on it. I do see Taker on TV occasionally when he shows up and I watch Smackdown every once in awhile so there is a chance of an opinion or two. But I just am not inspired enough to work with it as I once did.
And speaking of the subject of this site, I can't say I'm all smiles and shit over his return. I actually had such high hopes when I saw him return as the Deadman and all those old emotions started coming back, which was such a wonderful feeling. When I saw the buildup and the WM return with the lights, fog, and music, I regained something I lost for years with him for a brief moment. I was able to just sit there and be immersed in the character. Or as I might put it more bluntly (and you probably all expect me to do), I bought what the motherfucker was selling that night.
After WM, I hoped for him to create some of that old magic that left the audience spellbound. I wanted to see him return with that grandeur and aura of darkness, power, and mystery. I couldn't wait to see his promos and how they were going to explain his resurrection from the dead. It would have been a great tale, I'd say. I wanted to see him immerse himself into great feuds and play all the psychological games. And I must say I was disappointed when my hopes were dashed.
I think for that best case scenario to happen, Calaway had to be into the character and the portrayal and from what little we've seen of him, that appears not to be the case. From my vantage point, it appears that the Deadman UT was brought back to pacify the fans and to pacify his boss and to be used as a bargaining chip. Rumors circulated that Calaway was leaning towards a part-time/special event status and I think that he agreed to return as something other than the ABA for this to happen. So instead of what could've been, he shows up here and there for a few minutes with one-sided feuds and maybe a match every whipstitch. And even with this, he still gets main even matches, even though he's done nothing to earn them. Must be nice.
I also think that this half-assed incarnation isn't fair to the fans and to the integrity and history of the character itself. And at this point, if he doesn't want to put effort into what he does and wants to show up for a few minutes when he feels like it, he should either shit or get off the pot. I mean, why stick around if you're not going to put effort in what you do? I mean he works to get paid but why make it so apparent that you're just there to collect the paycheck by not being as involved as you could be? And before people tell me that the WWF does this to him, he does have creative freedom with that character so whatever they say they're going to do, he can tweak it to his liking. I'm also not asking for him to go out there and work full time if he feels his body isn't up to it because I think even with his current 'part time' status, he could still take the time he has out there, put his full potential into it, and it could have great results.
Well now that I've gone off about UT's not-so triumphant return, I want to discuss another topic that had been hot and heavy on some of the message boards: Jenna Jameson's mention of UT in her book. I read the passage and essentially Jenna painted Taker as a guy who was really into his character to the point he lived it and that scared her. And from what she said, he also had a thing for her when she a stripper in Vegas.
I feel that people were too quick to pass judgment on her and I think some of the things said about her were very rude and uncalled for. They dismissed her saying she made that up to sell books. I must say that having Taker's name mentioned isn't going to skyrocket sales since the guy is only known in such an insular group (wrestling fans). Plus I tend to believe what Jenna has to say because she's a straight shooter and makes no excuses for what she has done in her life. She doesn't try to hide anything and lays all the cards on the table. And to those who claim she's lying, how do they know? Taker is merely a man and being as such, isn't some infalliable saint. Even the man himself admits this.
And to finish this up, I just want to summarize. The site is pretty much staying as it is now because I find it hard to put work into something you don't like. It applies in the real world and it applies here. I'd also like to tell those who constantly look at him with rose-colored glasses that it doesn't hurt to take them off every once in awhile and it won't make you any less of a fan. Because when it comes down to it, outside the arena he's a man and being as such, is as falliable as the rest of us. However, when he's in the ring, I wouldn't be a bit offended if he decided to act like someone of high stature - a Lord of Darkness, perhaps?
